BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty denies ‘swipe’ at Saturday Kitchen star’s appearance

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty took a cheeky swipe at her beloved co-star after “scaring” viewers with a terrifying monster.

During Saturday’s visit (May 4) to the BBC studios, the 49-year-old welcomed viewers back to the morning show alongside her co-host Charlie Stayt. The presenting duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines.

This included the ongoing developments in the election race, the rise in demand for more foster parents up and down the country and the rush to support thousands of properties in Sussex left without water. Later on in the show, the hosts discussed how one fisherman caught one of the largest fish recorded in the UK.

The “monster catfish” – which can grow up to 10ft long – made headlines as the biggest ever fish caught by rod in freshwater. The fish weighed a staggering 143lbs and took three people nearly an hour to reel it in from a lake in Essex.

Before showing an image of the terrifying fish on screen, Naga and Charlie were forced to warn viewers to look away if they suffer from Ichthyophobia – which is the extreme, overwhelming and irrationals fear of fish.

The broadcaster insisted that the fish was safely returned to the river before she threw the show over to the TV chef on Saturday Kitchen. Charlie began saying: “Let’s ask him what he thinks of the big fish, it’s a whopper isn’t it?”

Matt immediately pulled a disgusted face, admitting: “I was just watching the fish, I don’t think I’d be too happy about that. I’m not sure about that, it’s a bit scary.

“Maybe I’m a bit scared of it, it just looks a bit big.” It was at this point that Naga shared the health benefits of eating catfish over other proteins.

She explained: “I looked this up earlier and this is what the internet says: [Catfish are a] fantastic alternative to more expensive meats. They are low in calories and is only 98 calories in a 100 gram portion. It’s a great choice for those looking after their weight.”

It was at this point that the cook chuckled to himself as he twigged Naga’s subtle swipe at his weight. He giggled: “Well, yes I see where you’re going with this. Thanks so much.”

Thankfully, Matt was able to laugh off the awkward exchange

Naga insisted: “No I wasn’t, it’s what the internet said that’s all Matt,” as he argued: “For me, thanks.” Thankfully, Matt was able to laugh off the awkward moment and swiftly moved on to introduce his guests on the show and what segments they had coming up.
