BBC star Miranda Hart mystery illness hint as she addresses weight gain

Miranda Hart has addressed her weight gain as she appeared to share she has been dealing with an illness.

The Call The Midwife star, 51, opened up as she promoted her new book I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You. She admitted that she had “found it incredibly hard not to feel shame from gaining weight” but that she had now “dismantled” that.

While she didn’t give further details on any health condition, actress and comedian Miranda went on: “Life happens. Illness happens.”

In a video, the Not Going Out star was wearing a T-shirt that had the word “Proud” emblazoned on it. Miranda started by telling her fans that she had “lost all of the midlife weight that was lumped on in the last three years”.

But smiling, she then mouthed “I haven’t” as she gestured towards her book. She continued: “But can I just say I’m actually really proud of the fact that I’ve dismantled quite a lot of shame about my weight gain, not that because I don’t think that bigger is beautiful, but because it isn’t quite me and I feel really uncomfortable and it’s one of the things I talk about in there.”

Miranda shared the clip on Instagram and gave more details in the caption. She told her followers on the platform: “I have found it incredibly hard not to feel shame from gaining weight over the last three years. Not because of striving for an aesthetic ideal but because it doesn’t represent me and who I naturally am.

“But life happens. Illness happens. And it’s a great way to keep focusing on the greatest healer – self-compassion. If I lose it or not I know I am loved. Peace out.”

Fans rushed to support the star after her candid post, saying how “amazing” she was. “Weight gain is horrendously misunderstood and people can be terribly judgmental,” one wrote in the comments section. “Learning to accept yourself is a really good place to start.”

“You are amazing, no matter how much you weigh, and indeed loved, to the moon and back,” said another. Someone else wrote: “Miranda you are awesome, every time I read your posts you give me a laugh or smile, you have a great sense of humour, you are you and that’s what’s nice, lots of celebrities are like two different people, the only thing anyone needs to be is happy with themselves.”
