Strictly Come Dancing fans were left gobsmacked within moments of Saturday’s live show starting.
The iconic duo Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly returned to host the new season of the beloved dance contest, but as they kicked off tonight’s extravaganza (September 21), viewers couldn’t help but be fixated on Claudia’s ensemble.
Donning an oversized cream pantsuit with voluminous sleeves and a cinched waist belt, topped with a high neckline, Claudia was immediately likened to Star Wars’ legendary Princess Leia.
Eager Strictly enthusiasts didn’t hesitate to hop onto X to voice their opinions, with one fan quipping: “Hey Claudia Princess Leia wants her dress back!”
Another chimed in: “Claudia is serving MONK in that dress!” while a third remarked: “Why is Claudia Winkleman dressed like she’s in Star Wars?”
Another fan noted: “The force is strong with Claudia tonight! ” and yet another added: “Claudia is Princess Leia and Tess is an imperial guard tonight. And Paul Merson has been truly shafted with the song and costume choices.”
The 2024 series of Strictly has burst back onto screens following an electrifying launch show. The first week sees the celebs and their pro partners strut their stuff for the initial leaderboard rankings after showcasing a dance routine, reports the Mirror.
Although the judges will dish out their critiques and scores, no one will face the chop this week. It’s only in week two that the stakes will rise, and we’ll see the first celebrity bid farewell to the dance floor.
Viewers will have the chance to get involved when the lines open in week two next Saturday (September 28), with the first elimination of the series airing the following night (Sunday, September 29). The excitement begins at 7pm on BBC One tonight, but there won’t be a results show this weekend.
Currently leading the betting odds are X Factor champ Shayne Ward and JLS’s JB Gill. However, former professional dancer Erin Boag has tipped Miranda star Sarah Hadland as a potential dark horse.
