Sharing pictures on Instagram of them together, including one of John with a cigar in his mouth in front of a no smoking sign, Judge wrote: “Thursday night John seemed like he was sleeping but the Yankees were on. They won the game, clinched the division then John made it to home.
“Forty years of laughs on screen and off. John LIVED his life! My brother, my partner, my Sarge – I love you. There’s no smoking in Heaven, John,” he quipped. The actor, 67, added hashtags including “#brother”, “#love” and “#friends”.
A representative for the actor told Deadline in a statement: “John was a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
“John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his brother, sisters, his extended family and all who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”
John is best known for Beverly Hills Cop, reprising the role three years in the sequel. This year he played Taggart again in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which Judge also starred in. The actor was also known for movies including Some Kind of Wonderful, Midnight Run, Gone Baby Gone and Curly Sue.
Fans have also told of their sadness at John’s death, with one responding to Judge’s post by saying: “A true legend gone!” “Awful news,” agreed someone else.
One posted: “Glad he got one last Beverly Hills Cop run.” “So glad you two were able to have one more ride,” said another fan. “Thanks for years of entertainment. Rest In Power.”
