BGT champ Sydnie Christmas ‘heartbroken’ to learn fans branded her win a ‘fix’

Britain’s Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas has said the fix claims swirling around her win are “soul-destroying”.

The 28-year-old singer won the ITV entertainment show on Sunday (June 2), after dazzling the audience and judges Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden with her rendition of Lauren Allred’s version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. But there has been a backlash, with some people claiming her win was rigged.

Opening up to Metro, Sydnie admitted it was making her feel “c*****”. “I’m new to all the attention,” she said, adding that the fix rumours were “just not true”.

Some have moaned about the fact that Sydnie has performed on stage before, in shows including Starlight Express. Others complained that having her go last in the final made her more likely to win.

She said: “Everything has been genuine and I’ve said my truth so saying it’s not is questioning me. There’s nothing that breaks my heart more than to see (doubt).

“It’s soul-destroying but there’s nothing I can do to change their minds so I’ve had to separate myself. I’d love to speak to them but they are so angry so there’s nothing more I can do.”

Sydnie has previously shared that she had been trying to make it in the West End for a while. But after experiencing knock-backs she came close to giving up.

Speaking on This Morning ahead of the final, she said that it could be tough trying to break into musicals because “there are so many of us trying to go for one role”. “There are not many musicals are there?” she pointed out.

“We are all trying to be the princess to the prince I suppose. And someone like me doesn’t really fit that part.”

Sydnie – who beat runners up magician Jack Rhodes and dancers Abigail & Afronitaaa to win BGT – gets a whopping £250,000 for winning Britain’s Got Talent, as well as the chance to sing at the Royal Variety Performance.
