Coronation Street fans all chimed in with the same complaint as the ITV soap once again aired a trigger warning before its latest episode.
On Monday (May 6), the cobbles weren’t dripping in Bank Holiday happiness as a warning promised “scenes of distress and suicide” before viewers delved into Paul’s latest hospital stint, Liam’s panic attacks and Roy’s false imprisonment. In the episode, viewers saw youngster Liam hang out with Joseph as the conversation turned to medication.
Liam suffered a panic attack he disguised as an asthma attack, using his inhaler and confessing he was struggling to breathe – but there was too long a waiting list to get anti-anxiety tablets.

Later in the soap, Liam discovered Paul’s emergency stash of pills and passed out on the floor after taking an accidental overdose. Fans agreed that the scenes of a youngster attempting suicide were “too dark” to air before the watershed.
Liam rifled through the cupboards for a snack before discovering the pills and rushing to hide them from Billy. When he returned home, he was clearly struggling to breathe – so turned to the tablets he’d stolen.
Billy discovered the pills missing and clearly panicked, and Liam was soon lying cold on the floor after overdosing on diazepam.
Taking to X, one viewer fumed: “I dream of the day when a soap won’t have scene warnings and helplines, get back to old entertainment for us to escape our lives and not relive them!” Someone else said: “Does EVERY SINGLE EPISODE have to have a warning that some viewers might be upset?”

As a third fumed: “Imagine you’ve had a very hard day and need escape with your fave soap. All you f***ing get is trigger warnings? If they’re that bad then why are you showing suicide before the watershed?”
Fans were clearly worried Liam was going to die after his horrific experience, with one writing: “Oh no, poor Liam! Hope he’s going to be okay.” Someone else said: “Liam’s killed himself!” As another fan speculated: “Liam’s storyline is so heartbreaking.”
