Coronation Street icon Katherine Kelly got plenty of people talking over her masturbation scene – but she insisted she wasn’t embarrassed at all.
The actress, 44, shot to fame playing Becky McDonald on the ITV soap back in 2006. For six years, she was a regular on the cobbles and was involved in several big storylines.
But in 2012, she left fans gutted when she quit the show. Since then, Katherine has turned her hand to an array of different projects.

In 2019, she had a lead role in the psychological thriller Cheat on ITV. Katherine played Dr Leah Dale in the four-part series that followed the professor’s relationship with her student Rose Vaughan (Molly Windsor).
And it’s fair to say things took a cheeky turn within minutes of the first episode airing. Fans were left stunned when Katherine’s character headed to the university loo for some self-love.
Leah could be seen fantasising over one of her colleagues as she fondled herself. Breathing heavily, she gives over to the pleasure – but stops when she hears a tap running from outside aware that she’s been caught in the act.
Despite the racy scenes, Katherine at the time said it takes a lot for her to get red-faced. She commented: “It really takes a lot for me to be embarrassed.”
She added to The Sun: “I have done sex scenes a lot before, I had my fair share of them in Mr Selfridge. I have had two children and after childbirth, you are not embarrassed by anything.”

Katherine went on: “You only get embarrassed when it doesn’t feel right, but I thought, reading the script, well women masturbate as much as men right!” She then explained how the scene was a way for her “pent up” character to release her “frustrations” surrounding her marriage.
It’s fair to say the racy moment got plenty of people talking. So much so, that it was reported that the masturbation scene caused 500,000 viewers to switch off, reports The Sun.
Viewers at the time shared their thoughts on the racy series on X, then known as Twitter. One person said: “Christ, she’s had more sex in five minutes than I’ve had in three years.”
Someone else mused: “Watching Cheat on ITV and a few minutes in there are two sex scenes… where do I look?” While a third exclaimed: “Start off with a bang, eh!”
