Corrie fans reckon they’ve sussed out how Ken Barlow will topple The Institute and reclaim his hefty £40k.
The Street was abuzz earlier this year when the enigmatic “self-improvement group” known as The Institute slinked into the scene. Helmed by the charismatic Rowan Cunliffe (Emhrys Cooper), Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) quickly fell under its spell, much to the dismay of her betrothed Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and her sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor), who’ve been worried over her involvement.
But it wasn’t just Leanne getting tangled up in the cult’s web; Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) too found herself drawn in, leaving Nick and Toyah horrified. Smooth-talker Rowan managed to charm Amy into considering investing her £40,000 inheritance into their coffers.
This week saw Amy pleading with granddad Ken (William Roache) to unlock the funds left for her by her late gran Deirdre. Ken was wary at first but eventually warmed to the idea.
Yet, the plot thickened when Amy endured a traumatic “malware session” at the cult’s hands, leading to her fleeing in distress, reports the Express.
Despite her second thoughts about the investment, Ken dropped the bombshell that he’d already transferred the cash. And to add insult to injury, Amy was told getting the money back would be a nightmare since it had already nestled into The Institute’s parent company’s accounts.
Corrie’s Steve McDonald (played by Simon Gregson) and Tracy (Kate Ford) were left fuming when the police told them there wasn’t a case, as Amy handed over the money willingly.
Now, Corrie watchers are buzzing with theories that Ken Barlow is about to take down Rowan and The Institute, with a twist up his sleeve.
Chatter has exploded online from eagle-eyed fans recalling how Ken scooped a £50k Premium Bond win not long ago. And viewers are convinced he’s used those winnings, not Deidres legacy, to bail out Amy and fork over the cash to The Institute.
On Facebook, a sleuthing viewer speculated: “Ken’s premium bond win has not been mentioned since that phone call. I reckon Ken opted to use his winnings to pay the institute…he could see how happy Amy was but he didn’t want the inheritance from Deidre to be put at risk. perhaps?”
Another jumped in saying: “Well done… I think you could be right…” Another chimed in: “Good shout! Ken’s actions sure seem that way too! ” One more fan added fuel to the speculation fire with: “oooooh never thought of that.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
