Dancing On Ice champ Ryan Thomas ‘returning to acting’ after ‘all kinds of offers’

Dancing On Ice champ Ryan Thomas is plotting a surprise return to acting following his skating success.

The former Coronation Street star announced his shock retirement from acting in 2021. He quit to spend more time with his family and to focus on other work projects.

But the 39-year-old told the Daily Star Sunday he was ready for a comeback. Ryan, who played Corrie character Jason Grimshaw for 16–years, said: “Returning to acting is something I have been talking about.

“It is my trade after all, so I need to use that to the best of my advantage.

“There’s no definite role and it would all depend on what comes up but we’ll see what happens.”

Ryan, who also appeared in Australian soap Neighbours, has been inundated with work offers since being crowned ice skating champion last Sunday.

A source said: “Winning Dancing On Ice will definitely open lots of doors for Ryan.

“He’s been receiving all kinds of offers, including acting jobs. If a big role came his way he would be mad to turn it down.”

With Ryan’s 40th birthday on the horizon, 2024 promises to be a big year.

But one thing he won’t be doing is marrying long term fiance Lucy Mecklenburgh, 32.

The besotted celeb couple got engaged in 2019 – just two years after falling in love on Bear Grylls Celebrity Island.

But they decided to have kids before walking down the aisle.

Ryan joked: “Lucy turned up to DOI the other week in what looked like a wedding dress.

“I think it was a hint to me but we have got to stop having children first so they can walk down the aisle with us.

“We are engaged and I did put a ring on her finger but we keep having children.

“There’s still no date in the diary so stop reminding her.”

Ryan is now planning a luxury family holiday to celebrate his TV triumph.

And he praised Lucy – saying she deserved it more than he did.

He added: “I had no idea how mentally and physically exhausting it would all be.

“But the biggest hero is Lucy.

“She’s been home alone looking after two kids under four which arguably is much harder than what I was doing.

“I missed them all so much I can’t wait to go on holiday and spend some quality family time together.”
