Dancing on Ice star Greg Rutherford has admitted his fiancée Susie Verrill has an unusual request when it comes to his performances on the ITV rink.
Greg, 37, wowed judges Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean on Sunday (February 18) to score a highly impressive 35 – just one point off the top of the week 5 leaderboard. Now the former Olympian has explained that one of the keys to his success is the backing of Susie, with whom he shares three children.
Greg, who is partnered with professional skater Vanessa James, said Susie is clearly comfortable with the pair getting up close and personal in their routines. Blogger Susie “just gets it” according to the star, having trained as a dancer earlier in her career too.

Long jump expert Greg told the Mirror: “She’s always telling me to try to make the routines as sexy as possible.”
He continued: “Some partners are watching, thinking, ‘I don’t know about that,’ but she’s like, ‘Make it look way sexier than you are. She’s said to me before, ‘You just look like you want to murder someone, your concentrated face is that strong’. So I’ve been trying very hard not to have that face.”
Greg suffered a nasty injury ahead of week 4’s show, meanwhile, prompting supportive Susie to issue a rallying cry on her Instagram story. Sitting in the audience, she penned: “Gonna be such a fun show tonight – musicals night! Please do vote for Greg and Vanessa if you enjoy them because as much as I miss him it’s really nice that he’s not home half-building things all the time.”
His injury forced him to miss rehearsals that week, but thankfully he recovered in time to perform and with the backing of his partner, made it safely through. It came after an injury to Vanessa in Movies Week, which Greg detailed his guilt over afterwards.
“We practiced one of the flows that we were doing and I basically threw Vanessa completely wrong and really hurt her,” he told the Express on Sunday. “I felt awful, absolutely awful. That really did hit me quite hard but it hit her harder as she hit the ice.”

Greg continued: “It was one of those things that you have to remind yourself every so often that you have to be as respectful as possible to the ice and the movement you are performing. The sport is a very dangerous sport so you have to be on your game, there’s a hell of a responsibility.”
Dancing on Ice airs every Sunday evening on ITV1 and ITVX.
