Dancing on Ice’s Ryan Thomas ‘wounded’ days before live shows and is ‘still sore’

Ryan Thomas ‘ place on Dancing on Ice could be in jeopardy after he was “injured” during last-minute training ahead of the new series.

Former Coronation Street actor Ryan, 39, is set to take to the ice for the first time on Sunday as the hit ice skating competition returns to our screens on ITV. He will be joined by professional partner Amani Fancy, who has been hard at work teaching Thomas the steps for their routine.

But in a recent update shared to Amani’s social media platform, it was revealed that Ryan had sustained a nasty injury to his shoulder. Ryan could be seen with an ice pack on the area as he looked less than impressed with being cut.

However, Amani kept up the tongue-in-cheek approach the pair have been sharing in the run-up to the first show. Taking to the caption she slyly wrote: “The wounded Ryan Thomas.”

But Fancy admitted that Ryan should make a full recovery in time for the show, reassuring concerned fans. Adding to her little quip, she said: “Don’t worry everyone, [the shoulders] are just sore.”

This is not the first time Ryan has done himself an injury in the run-up to the first live show. During training, Thomas admitted in a recent appearance on This Morning that he had suffered a “nasty fall” whilst rehearsing on the rink.

Amani added that they will be hammering in the steps in order to stop any other last-minute wounds from appearing. She said: “we’ve got a long journey ahead of us, we need to make sure that what happened in practice a few weeks ago doesn’t happen in the live shows – which was quite a tough fall.

“But it’s not easy, they’ve got to lift us, they’ve got a life in their hands,” she continued. Ryan’s minor injury pales in comparison to the horror damage former Love Island winner Amber Davies had sustained.

Twelve celebrities will be taking to the ice in the newest series of the show, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern. Amongst the line-up are former boxer Ricky Hatton, Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi and Olympic long jumper Greg Rutherford.

Dancing on Ice kicks off on Sunday, January 15 at 6:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
