Former Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams awkwardly dodged Lorraine Kelly’s question about the talent show.
On Wednesday (May 22) the 52-year-old comedian graced Lorraine’s famous couch to publicise his comic book Astrochimp, set to launch on May 23, following the success of his bestseller Gangsta Granny. But he couldn’t escape mentions of the hit reality series and his sudden departure in 2022.
Lorraine tried to quiz him about the new series, asking him: “Britain’s Got Talent is on, how are you feeling about that? Do you watch, do you not watch? Are you a bit sorry about it all? “.

It was clear David wouldn’t talk about the show and he seemed taken aback by the question but quickly composed himself afterwards. He claimed he hadn’t had a chance to watch it, saying: “Well, I’ve been travelling a lot so I haven’t had a chance to see it.”
Walliams redirected the attention back to his creative pursuits, referencing ongoing filming and writing commitments. Yet, viewers tuning into the morning programme didn’t miss the awkward chat, taking to X to voice their thoughts.
“Walliams not bitter at all about bgt”, one fan sarcastically noted, while another added: “David Walliams trying to be diplomatic about BGT”. A third fan joked: “David Walliams would make an excellent politician.”
Meanwhile, a fourth supporter backed David, saying: “I like David Walliams, he looks like he has been through a tough time from the corrupt BGT. I hope him all the best. He deserves a career.”
Britain’s Got Talent was plunged into turmoil in November 2022 when David left the panel after a decade. His departure followed the leak of remarks he made about contestants during a break in filming in 2020.
David expressed his regret over the incident, stating: “I would like to apologise to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain’s Got Talent in 2020. These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry.”
In late 2023, David reached a settlement with Fremantle, the production company he had taken to court over a privacy case for misuse of private information and breaching UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. The star claimed that the producers had caused him psychiatric harm and financial loss.
Both parties have since come to an “amicable resolution.” Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli have since teamed up as the new Britain’s Got Talent judges.
