Daytime TV legend ‘signs for Strictly Come Dancing’ despite BBC show’s scandal

A daytime TV legend has reportedly signed up for Strictly, despite the ongoing drama.

The BBC show has been embroiled in numerous scandals following allegations of abuse and misconduct in the rehearsal studios. An internal investigation has been launched by the channel to look into the claims, and has already let Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima go.

However, despite this, BBC bosses are keen to stress that there will be a new edition of the show taking place later this year. Now it’s reported that Nick Knowles is going to be joining the next series.

It’s said the DIY SOS legend will be lacing up his dancing shoes. According to The Sun, the 61-year-old is due to participate after months of talks with producers behind the scenes.

Nick Knowles is reportedly set for a stint on Strictly

Knowles is no stranger to getting his dancing shoes out, after he uploaded a clip of his skills in March 2023. His footwork impressed his followers, with one fan penning that they could “see Strictly Come Dancing on the horizon”.

It is understood that talks with Nick and the BBC have been ongoing for months before he agreed to take part in the show. A source close to the presenter told The Sun: “Nick has always loved Strictly and he is so excited.

“He’s got a great personality, is incredibly driven and competitive and is up for giving anything a crack,” they added. “He’s going on the show to entertain and to win; he’ll give it his best shot.”

Should the news be true, Nick would be joining the likes of fellow BBC star Jamie Borthwick, 30, who also is rumoured to be taking part in this year’s series. Jamie is a fan favourite in EastEnders thanks to his heart-breaking portrayal of Jay Brown on the soap – and already has experience of the Strictly dancefloor, having won the Christmas edition of the show last year.

Last month, it was also revealed that podcast host Grace Keeling – better known as GK Barry online – was interested in taking part in the show. She is said to be in “advanced talks” with bosses to appear in the upcoming edition.

DIY SOS host Nick is also no stranger to the Strictly cohort, having worked with some of the show’s pros on his home makeover show. Collaborating with Katya Jones and Luba Mushtuk, the trio helped to renovate and redecorate an old house in North Tyneside and give it a new lease of life.

Nick is also competitive, having already waded into what he thinks makes a winner on the show. In a post to his social media he explained that the pair that gets through to the viewing public are the ones that come out on top.

“Strictly is an entertainment show – not strictly a dancing competition — otherwise those that went to drama college & learned dance would have an unfair advantage,” he explained. “It’s the one who connects with the audience that wins.”
