Eamonn Holmes’ health issues – ‘on borrowed time’, surgery and blindness fears

TV legend Eamonn Holmes has been spotted zipping around on a mobility scooter during his Spanish getaway with girlfriend Katie Alexander-Thom, 42.

The veteran broadcaster, battling ongoing health issues, needed some extra help as they set off for a sunny escape in Barcelona. Eamonn, looking every bit the trooper at 64, has had fans worried after he was seen struggling during a live news show last week.

Despite the challenges, he was all smiles beside fitness icon Mr Motivator, aka Derrick Errol, who tried to coax him into some gentle exercises on air.

The GB News star has been candid about his health struggles, previously stating that he feels like he’s on “borrowed time”. Always a fighter, Eamonn’s been grappling with back issues and recovering from not one, but two hip replacements.

In a heart-wrenching effort to walk again, he shared a clip of himself taking steps on an anti-gravity treadmill, followed by a frank admission: “Hard to stand up but next my aim is to walk.”

His health journey hasn’t been easy, dealing with sleepless nights due to chronic pain from slipped discs and even undergoing spinal surgery to get some relief, reports the Mirror.

Speaking at the TRIC Awards in June, he said: “I went for an operation a year and a half ago and it went wrong. I got two things in my back that I didn’t want.”

He has confessed to fears that he may be forced to rely on walking aids for the rest of his life, after a gruelling recovery process that has seen him try numerous rehabilitation methods. “I have tried every treatment but you go: ‘Maybe I’ll never get out of it,’ which is a harsh reality to face,” Eamonn previously said.

Eamonn has faced other health battles in recent years, including a bout of shingles in 2018 that left him with a painful rash. He attributed the severity of the viral infection to a stressful dispute with HMRC over his tax status as a presenter on This Morning.

He recalled how the condition left him looking like he had been attacked with a baseball bat, and expressed concerns that it could have led to blindness.
