Emmerdale star Michael Parr has come back to the ITV soap after six years away from playing his character Ross Barton. Since then, he has split with his co-star and moved on to a new “happy relationship”.
He went separate ways with his co-star ex Isabel Hodgins in 2019 and now Michael hints at romance blooming anew. Michael divulges: “I’m in a very happy relationship,” adding, “She’s amazing and has been very supportive.”
Ross left the Dales six years ago for a fresh start after enduring an acid attack and losing three family members, has made a dramatic return. Actor Michael Parr, reprising his role, reveals that Ross’s new hobby is bare-knuckle fighting.
“Ross has taken up bare-knuckle fighting. It’s a very violent and traumatic job, but there’s a financial motive,” says 38-year-old Michael. “And I’m sure it makes a good impression on girls to say that he’s a fighter.”
Ross departed with Rebecca (Emily Head), but returns solo, leaving fans in suspense about their relationship. However, a new woman, Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore), enters his life, guiding him through the world of unlicensed boxing. “Jade is the one wearing the trousers in their relationship,” Michael discloses.
“She’s very imposing when she’s got her heels on and is surrounded by gangsters. Ross has really met his match – he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.”, reports the Mirror.
Ross Barton is set for an explosive return to Emmerdale, shaking things up as he reunites with Billy Fletcher in the ring. “I’d say Ross gets mostly a negative reaction from the locals,” actor Michael Parr reveals with a chuckle.
“But he does have some fans out there, and he has his son, Moses (Arthur Cockroft). The big difference there is that when Ross left, there was no Mack [Boyd, played by Lawrence Robb]. Mack has become a father figure in
Moses’ life and that eats away at Ross. So there will be lots of fireworks and they’ll both fight for Moses’ affection.”
Ross Barton’s comeback promises to stir up drama as he battles for his son’s affection against step-in dad Mack Boyd. Having sired Moses with Charity Dingle during a torrid love triangle involving his brother’s fiancée, Ross’s tangled past might reignite old flames.
“I think the potential for Ross and Charity to be Bonnie and Clyde again is still there,” says Michael Parr, fuelling hopes for the duo’s villainous partnership.
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
