Eurovision viewers ‘robbed’ as show legends fail to attend for finale performance

Eurovision fans admitted they were “gutted” after ABBA failed to make an appearance at the song contest.

The pop group won Eurovision in 1974 and with this year being the 50th anniversary – plus the fact it was held in their homeland of Sweden – there had been a lot of rumours about them reuniting on stage. Viewers were glued to the screen during the final on Saturday (May 11), with many convinced that ABBA would show up.

The presenters even teased it, whipping fans into a frenzy by introducing a band beginning with “A” – but it turned out to be Alcazar. There was also an ABBA tribute from stars such as Conchita Wurst.

A little later, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Faltskog and Bjorn Ulvaeus did make an appearance of sorts. But it was their holograms used in their ABBA Voyage show and not the real people, and fans were unimpressed.

Many posted messages on X saying how disappointed they were that the Waterloo legends hadn’t shown up. “WTF Sweden… where are ABBA?“ asked one baffled viewer.

“Absolutely gut punched ABBA did not perform!” said another. “We’ve all been robbed!!!”

“Switched on Eurovision and got very excited for ABBA to then get very disappointed,” said someone else. Another confessed that they were “gutted”.

“I’ve been robbed of ABBA right there, could cry,” wrote another fan. Someone else said: “If ABBA can’t get together in Sweden for 50 year anniversary at Eurovision Song Contest it’s never gonna happen. Would have been an amazing moment. Feel quite disappointed.”

“Why the f*** are we seeing ABBA holograms doing an interval act this is so bad,” another person remarked.

Another commented: “For a moment, I did think, the real ABBA were actually going to perform… and then, Nooooooh! Didn’t know until this moment, how much I want to see ABBA live.”

Someone else joked: “Would have been nice, if the real ABBA showed up at last night’s Eurovision. But I don’t think the audience (nor the internet) would survive!”
