For the Love of Dogs fans complain minutes into new series as Alison Hammond hosts

ITV viewers all complained about the same thing when it came to For the Love of Dogs with Alison Hammond.

The show returned with cheery Alison at the helm but fans couldn’t get quite used to the replacement. The show was formerly presented by the late Paul O’Grady who passed away last year.

Viewers took to X to share their thoughts on the new series. One said: “I miss Paul O’Grady so much #fortheloveofdogs.” A second added: “It’s all so scripted and lost that loving warmth and care for the dogs #fortheloveofdogs”

While a third penned: “Nobody but nobody could replace Paul O Grady. He was a one-off. #fortheloveofdogs” A fourth posted: “First 15 mins, not as bad as I thought it might be. The main difference is when Paul O’Grady did this he did it for his genuine love of dogs. With Alison Hammond it feels like just another pay cheque #fortheloveofdogs”

I think he would approve.”

When asked what appealed to her about hosting For the Love of Dogs and how she found filming so far, Alison said: “I used to watch For the Love of Dogs when Paul O’Grady did it. He was incredible and I absolutely fell in

love with all the stories and always wanted to know what was going to happen to the dogs.

Alison was a big fan of the show

“I didn’t have a dog growing up because my family was a Caribbean family and they just didn’t want to have a dog around the house, but I always loved dogs and used to go and play with them at my mates’ houses. So, when I got this opportunity, I was so flattered to be asked to follow in Paul’s footsteps and I really wanted to help the charity, get stuck into knowing the dogs and let people know about all the amazing work that goes on at Battersea.”
