Gladiators fans rush to complain just minutes into grand final of BBC series

Gladiators fans were left fuming just minutes into the final.

The grand final of the BBC show aired on Saturday (30 March) and saw Finlay Anderson and Marie-Louise Nicholson crowned champs. But many were unimpressed as hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh revealed the first challenge would be the Gauntlet, which sees the contenders trying to make it past a row of Gladiators who are trying to hold them back.

The game hasn’t been the most popular, and many viewers were apparently hoping it didn’t feature in the final. It seems they felt it wasn’t challenging enough for the final, which was won by Finlay Anderson and Marie-Louise Nicholson.

“Gauntlet seems a bit feeble as a game at the best of times, never mind as the opener to the #Gladiators Grand Final…” one person sniped on X. “Mental having Gauntlet in the final,” said another, calling it an “absolutely s**** game”.

Some fans didn’t want to see the Gauntlet in the final on Saturday (March 30)

Another person posted: “Starting with the Gauntlet? What’s going on?” “Good idea, get Gauntlet out of the way first, then they can get down to some actual challenges!” joked someone else.

Lots of viewers suggested that the challenge wasn’t tough enough – and suggested that it could be made trickier by cutting the time. Others called for it to be ditched altogether next season.

“What’s the point of Gauntlet?” asked one baffled fan. “Surely the producers have noticed it’s too easy by now?” “It says a lot when even I could make it through the Gauntlet,” quipped someone else.

People think the challenge is too easy

One person called it “pointless”, nothing that plenty of contenders manage to hustle their way past Viper and co and rack up high point scores. Another agreed: “Gauntlet remains a non event in its current state. Everyone gets 10 points.”

“Every contestant who’s faced it, bar one, has beaten Gauntlet,” said another miffed viewer. “That’s not proof to axe it but an indictment on the producers for making it so damn easy. Have to add a zone and make each one longer at the very least to make it the challenge it should be next series.”

“They either need to make the Gauntlet harder (add an extra section with 20 secs still) or get rid of it in Season 2,” suggested one viewer. Somebody else joked that show bosses need to make the game “brutal” if it was brought back.

“Gladiators need to drop Gauntlet for the next season,” commented another viewer. “Points just for showing up.”
