GMB fans vow to ‘switch to BBC’ after blunder during Hugh Bonneville interview

Good Morning Britain viewers were left so unimpressed by an interview blunder with Hugh Bonneville that they’ve threatened to switch allegiance to the Beeb. The interview which some dubbed a “car crash” took place on Thursday (October 31), featuring the Paddington and Downton Abbey star linked up from The Shard.

Fans anticipated the conversation would improve but were unimpressed even after host Kate Garraway exclaimed she was “related to the legendary bear”.

A clip then showed Kate dive into her family’s tie with Paddington creator Michael Bond, a revelation that fell flat with Hugh himself.

Then came the huge blunder when Kate mixed up Downton Abbey with Paddington as she quizzed Hugh about the late Maggie Smith’s role in Paddington. Hugh quipped back correcting: “I don’t think she was in the Paddington film, she certainly was in Downton.”

Kate, red-faced, stumbled, “Sorry, you’re right, it was Downton,” reports the Mirror. Hugh lightened the mood with, “I’m sure she would look very good in a bear outfit, I am sure.”

Kate told viewers she’s related to Paddington

To top off the fan fury, viewers ripped into Eds bizarre questions, one viewer slamming on X – previously known as Twitter: “Ed balls asking if paddington took his own supply of marmalade to peru stupid t***** # gmb.”

Viewers on the platform slammed the interview as a “shambles” causing some to proclaim they’d be ditching the show for good: “This shambles only goes to persuade me that I’m transferring my allegiance to #BBCBreakfast …#gmb.”

Another individual echoed this, stating: “#GMB Kate: I’m officially related to Paddington Bear. Me: Switch off TV.”

The heat didn’t stop there; further criticism was lobbed at Kate’s interviewing abilities. One irate viewer commanded: “FFS Kate! Think before you speak! #GMB,” while another bluntly put it, “Kate Garraway f***ing up again. #GMB.”

Other commenters couldn’t help but lament: “What a car crash #GMB,” and complain about the length of a certain segment with, “This Paddington segment is going on and on #GMB.”

While on the morning talk-show circuit, Hugh promoted his new film, Paddington In Peru, set to hit UK cinemas from November 8, where he reprises his role as Henry Brown.

The third installment of the beloved movie series sees Paddington and his adoptive brood, the Browns, embark on a trip to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, with their journey taking an unexpected detour through the Amazon rainforest and the Peruvian mountains.

GMB is on ITV weekdays at 6am and on ITVX
