Gogglebox favourites Mary Killen and Giles Wood have opened up about their marriage.
Giles recently made a joke that he and his wife “hardly talk” which sparked concern among fans. The quirky couple are renowned for their playful jibes at each other, with Giles even jesting that they’re “incompatible”.
Despite being married for 30 years and having two grown-up daughters, Mary confessed in a recent interview that their on-screen banter has caused worry among viewers. When questioned if they think people can relate to their relationship, Giles remarked: “There’s a friction there.”

Mary concurred but added that fans wouldn’t want to see them “split”. “I think they like us for disagreeing agreeably. They like us fighting but not splitting up,” she expressed. Giles chimed in: “When we started, there [were comments about us] on Twitter, and although we don’t watch Twitter, I did look at it once or twice, with morbid curiosity, at three in the morning.”, reports the Express.
He told Idler: “Some were favourable and they said ‘relationship gold’, meaning, ‘I wish I could have a row with my husband or wife and then laugh at it at the end.’ Some families have three-day sulks when they fall out with each other.” The love story of the couple began when they were just 21, and they’ve now been happily married for over three decades. Mary has previously revealed that appearing on the show ultimately mended their marriage.
Chatting with the Daily Star, she dished: “Giles and I were like ships that pass in the night. I got up early, he went to bed late and we rarely even ate together.” She also confessed at the time: “I know a few couples who have split up because they have decided they can’t stand one another.”
“Chilling out in front of the telly reminded us how much we dig the same gags.” Thanks to Gogglebox, the duo started enjoying more quality time, quickly becoming fan favourites since they first graced our screens in 2015. The lovebirds even have their own pet names for each other, often heard on the Channel 4 hit as they affectionately call each other “nutty”.
