Hollywood star Susan Buckner has passed away aged 72.
The movie star shot to fame as Patty Simcox, the best friend of Olivia Newton-Johns’ character Sandy Olsson’s, in the musical movie Grease. According to Deadline, her family revealed she died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Miami on May 2.
She also appeared in other movies and television shows including the Mac Davis Show, Sonny and Cher and The Brady Bunch Variety Hour. Susan was also a Miss America contestant back in 1972 when she represented Washington.

Susan is survived by her son Adam Josephs, daughter Samantha Mansfield, grandchildren Oliver, Riley, Abigail and Ruby as well as her sister Linda, daughter-in-law Noel Josephs, son-in-law Adam Mansfield and longtime partner Al.
Her daughter, Samantha Mansfield, also remembered the late actress. “The light she brought into every room will be missed forever,” Mansfield told People. “She was magic, and I was very lucky to call her my best friend..” Fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the actress. One fan penned: “Sad to hear that Susan Buckner has died aged 72. She played Patty Simcox in Grease..” Another added: “RIP Susan.”
In 1978, she landed her most famous role as Rydell High cheerleader Patty, who wasn’t shy about showing her school spirit. “Do the splits, give a yell! Show a little spirit for old Rydell!” she famously chanted alongside Olivia’s Sandy. “Way to go, red and white! Go Rydell, fight, fight, fight!” Grease was the top-grossing movie of 1978 with $132.4 million in box office.
Its soundtrack spawned four Top 5 singles, earned an Album of the Year Grammy nom and has sold more than 8 million units in the U.S. alone. Later in life, Susan directed children’s theater at a Florida elementary school and taught dance as an instructor at a gym in Coral Gables.
