Harry Potter’s Colin Creevey star unrecognisable after quitting fame for normal job

One Harry Potter star looks totally unrecognisable 22 years after finding fame as amateur photographer Colin Creevey in the hit franchise.

Hugh Mitchell appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002, and continued acting until 2016. He appeared in The Da Vinci Code alongside Tom Hanks before landing roles in TV series like Holby City and Parades End.

But after that, Hugh decided to pursue a completely different career – and he’s now a wedding photographer. He looks totally different too, and in one snap sported shoulder-length blonde curls while rocking a band t-shirt at a fan convention.

In newer snaps, Hugh can be seen sporting trendy black glasses with his hair cropped closer to his scalp and stubble collecting at his chin. In one snap he rocked a dark blue hoodie on the back of a boat while grinning at the camera.

Explaining his reason for quitting acting, Hugh said on his website: “I started out as an actor, playing the snap-happy Colin Creevey in Warner Bros’ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Sometimes I get asked if that’s why I’m a photographer now. I don’t think it is, but who knows. Maybe a seed was planted.

“My love of photography started with landscapes. When I expanded into photographing people, I discovered that although it happens at a very different pace, the core principles of light and composition stay the same.

“I chase after authentic moments in beautiful light. At a wedding, my job is to document the life and soul of your day, and that means capturing real personalities and emotions. You don’t have to feel like a natural in front of the camera – I’ll help you to feel relaxed. If you’ve got a big day coming up, and need a photographer there to capture it, I’d be thrilled to help,” his profile continues.

He has reflected on his role as Colin, however, and fumed his character didn’t deserve to die in book seven. He explained on the Binge podcast: “When the final book came out, I wasn’t the first to read it, and people were going up to me going, ‘Oh, I heard about what happened. Are you okay?’

“There’s a sort of prevailing opinion that I think JK Rowling got a bit trigger-happy toward the end — she got a little bit like, ‘Oh, screw it, kill him as well,’ – I think there’s a certain poignancy to Colin’s death just because he was that picture of innocence and also bravery – the whole thing of sneaking back into the castle. So yeah, a lot of people were pretty cut up actually about Colin’s death.”

Hugh’s Instagram account is now full of professional photos, mainly landscapes interspersed with a few snaps of him out in the wild, taking snaps of the surrounding beauty.
