Hollyoaks legend unrecognisable as he lands huge Hollywood roles after soap exit

Former Hollyoaks actor Guy Burnet has come a long way since his days on the Channel 4 soap.

The 36-year-old actor, who is considered one of the UK’s greatest soap exports, spent six years playing Craig Dean in Hollyoaks from 2002 to 2008. Since leaving the show, he’s made a name for himself in the US, landing roles alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Guy was recently spotted at the premiere of his latest film, Dead for a Dollar, where he looked every bit the Hollywood star with his neatly trimmed beard and wavy hair. The Western film features Christoph Waltz as a veteran bounty hunter on a complex mission in Mexico, with supporting roles from Willem Dafoe and Rachel Brosnahan.

Guy’s return to the big screen follows his leading role in Pitch Perfect 3 opposite Anna Kendrick and a part in the Johnny Depp-led crime caper Mortdecai, where he played Ewan McGregor’s sidekick. During his time on Hollyoaks, Guy’s character Craig was involved in several gripping storylines as he struggled with his sexuality.

Craig eventually got engaged to John-Paul McQueen, and they became one of the soap’s most beloved couples. Guy Burnet, who left the show in 2007, briefly returned to his role the following year, delighting fans as Craig and John-Paul were given a happy ending as they exited the series to start a new life together.

However John-Paul made a return to the soap years later without Craig, but the influence of his off-screen lover was still evident. In 2017, John-Paul bid farewell to the show once more, seemingly to rekindle his relationship with Craig in Singapore.

As he and his son Matthew were gearing up to jet off to the Far East for a fresh start and new beginning, a call from Craig lit up his phone, hinting at a possible reunion. Guy boasts an impressive acting portfolio since leaving the Channel 4 show, featuring popular shows such as Chicago Fire, Hand of God, Counterpart and Ray Donovan.

Guy also took on the role of Claude Lambert, sharing the screen with Whiplash actor J. K. Simmons, Game of Thrones’ Harry Lloyd and Sixth Sense star Olivia Williams. The sci-fi storyline revolves around a UN employee who stumbles upon a secret portal leading to another dimension, hidden by the agency.

Last year, moviegoers were stunned to see Guy in Hollywood blockbuster Oppenheimer. Taking to X one fan wrote: “Was that Craig from Hollyoaks in Oppenheimer?”Another said: “Sill obsessed with the Oppenheimer cast being mega A-list stars and Craig from peak-era Holloyaks.”
