Hollywood icon admits ‘sex scenes are cruel’ and ‘threatened to call PETA’

One Hollywood icon confessed that filming sex scenes is “cruel” six months after she gave birth to her daughter.

Rachel Griffiths was starring in Brothers and Sisters shortly after welcoming baby Clementine in 2010 – and joked she was ready to seek outside help from an animal rights charity while romping with her co-star Gilles Marini. Despite winning various Golden Globe awards for her work, Rachel had to suffer through the raunchy scenes.

She told Us Weekly after the project wrapped: “I’ve got these lovemaking scenes with Gilles, and I said, ‘I’m going to call PETA because it must be cruelty to animals to have a woman who just had a baby six months ago have to do a bed scene with Gilles’. It’s ridiculous!”

Clementine was Griffith’s third child – she also has son Banjo and daughter Adelaide. At the time, Rachel confessed she wasn’t worried about her figure despite appearing on-screen, explaining: “Really, I think I looked in the mirror at that moment and said, ‘Oh wow! Maybe I should start working out’.

“But I tend to not get neurotic about it so I can meet my family’s needs and my baby’s needs. But I am starting to feel like I want to get a little stronger and fitter.”

It’s not only Rachel who thinks raunchy scenes are “cruel” – Blake Lively admitted it was “cruel torture” watching her husband Ryan Reynolds romping with another woman on-screen. Lively shared a hilarious story on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon concerning the Deadpool star.

She said: “I was on a plane with my baby, it’s kind of torture these days because I’m on a plane, and everywhere I look, there’s my husband in a sex montage throughout the holidays with another woman – because everyone wants to watch Deadpool on a plane.

“So for 14 hours, having your husband have mashed potatoes eaten out of his butthole – because that’s in the film. It’s lonely, it’s a cruel and unusual form of torture. My daughter goes ‘Dada’ and is hugging and kissing the screen and waving at him and doesn’t understand why he isn’t waving back. Because she thinks it’s like FaceTime. But she doesn’t understand Dada is getting it with the mashed potatoes.”

Meanwhile, Twilight star Kristen Stewart said her sex scenes in Breaking Dawn with her then-boyfriend Robert Pattinson were “agony”. She said at the time: “I only hate them when they’re contrived. That’s when it’s grotesquely uncomfortable.

“On Twilight we had to do the most epic sex scene of all time. It had to be transcendent and otherworldly, inhuman, better sex than you can possibly ever imagine, and we were like, ‘How do we live up to that?’ It was agony. Which sucks, because I wanted it to be so good.”
