‘Horrendous’ new Netflix film makes viewers ‘fall asleep’ with ‘cheesy’ plot

One of Netflix’s newest releases has been slammed by viewers.

Over in the Netflix Bangers group on Facebook, fans gathered to discuss A Family Affair, which was recently released on the streaming giant and stars Hollywood legends Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman.

Someone posted the film’s promo poster asking for “honest reviews,” and the group’s members didn’t hold back. One person branded it: “Boring as hell,” while another quipped: “Not great! Predictable and cheesy.”

Others called the flick “corny” and “horrendous” while someone even typed: “Took a wonderful power nap while watching it. It’s a snoozer [sleeping emoji].” Another critic added: “Cringey as fudge. It was actually uncomfortable to watch…”

The film was released on 28 June

“There was absolutely no chemistry [between] the two of them. I think there should have been a different actress besides Nicole Kidman in this, I would’ve loved to see Rachel McAdams personally,” speculated another group member.

However, some people defended the Netflix film and wrote: “I love Zac Efron and it is a cute movie,” as another comment read: “I thought it was funny. I enjoyed it. It was also quite good at sending the message that you can have all the money and fame but without someone to share it with, it can be a sad and lonely life.”

Another said it “wasn’t the best” but admitted they “enjoyed it,” while one fan gushed that it was “funny and cute, good for a movie night”. A Family Affair is a 2024 romcom film starring Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Joey King, Kathy Bates, Liza Koshy, Olivia Macklin and Sherry Cola.

The official Netflix description of the film reads: “The only thing worse than being the assistant to a high-maintenance movie star who doesn’t take you seriously? Finding out he’s smitten with your mom.” The film follows Zara, played by King, as her mother and boss fall for each other.

She is sick of being under appreciated by Chris Cole, a Hollywood superstar played by Efron. It was released on 28 June but was originally scheduled for 17 November 2023, postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

During a promotional interview, Zac revealed that the film’s original title was Motherf***er.
