Last night’s episode of The Voice sparked an annoyed reaction from fans barely minutes after it began. As usual, the episode opened with the panel of judges being introduced to the audience.
For the 2024 series, the panel includes the legendary singer Sir Tom Jones, country sensation LeAnn Rimes, Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am, and McFly’s Danny Jones, along with bandmate Tom Fletcher.
The show’s opening moments focused on the five celebrities, until Deborah, a teacher, took the stage for the first performance of the night.
However, the delay in hearing the first contestant sing grated on some viewer’s nerves, and they took to social media to lament the slow pacing, reports the Liverpool Echo.
On X, previously known as Twitter, an exasperated viewer posted: “They spend way too much of every episode introducing the judges!”
“That’s why it’s on for so long, after all the screen time the judges get each week we only see about six contestants per episode,” a second person wrote.
“The fact we often only get one act between ad breaks is a joke,” the first person replied.
Another impatient fan demanded: “Just get on with it.” Whilst one more griped: “An ad break already? Are you actually joking we’ve only had one [singer].” (sic)
“The Voice is once again focusing way too much on the judges, I wanna see new talent PLZ,” yet another person tweeted. (sic)
When Deborah finally performed, she wowed all the judges, with Will.I.Am revealing she shares his mother’s name.
Yet, in the end, Deborah opted for LeAnn Rimes as her mentor, which sparked a surprise reaction from some fans.
The Voice continues next Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
