Tipping Point fans were left baffled on Monday by a huge blunder as a ‘difficult’ question caught one contestant out.
During the latest instalment, viewers were introduced to contestants Chloe, Mark and Norma as host Ben Shephard put the trio through their paces with a series of tough questions.
For one of the questions, This Morning presenter Ben, 49, said: “We have two counters up for grabs in the penalty pot. I’m going to ask you all one more question, if you buzz and give me the correct answer, you put both of these counters into the machine.
“If you buzz and give me the wrong answer, you will be frozen out. Good luck to all of you, here comes your question… which typically round stone fruit is an anagram of the word ‘cheap’.”
To which Norma buzzed in immediately and said: “Pear!” but Ben was quick to reply: “It’s not pear, no, it’s peach, Norma! I’m afraid we’ve got to freeze you out, Norma!”
Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were left baffled over the blunder as they shared their thoughts. One person said: “#TippingPoint #tippingpoint ‘What fruit is an anagram of the word cheap?’ Norma ‘Pear’.”
A different account wrote: “Anagram of cheap to make a fruit,PEAR???#TippingPoint”, another viewer put: “Pear?! #TippingPoint”, a different show watcher exclaimed: “Pear #TippingPoint” with laughing emojis while another added: “Pear???? #TippingPoint.”
Meanwhile during the episode, the final contestant remaining at the end was Mark who decided to take a risk and trade in his money for three counters.
However, the gamble paid off as Mark managed to win £10,000 as he revealed plans to go on a cruise and throw a party with the winnings. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were left delighted that Mark’s gamble paid off.
One person said: “Well Done Mark #TippingPoint”, a different account wrote: “Risk rewarded. Atta boy, Mark #tippingpoint” while another added: “Well done, brilliant!! #TippingPoint.”
Tipping Point has gone from strength-to-strength since first being released in 2012 and it sees contestants answer questions on the subject of general knowledge in order to win counters, which they then use on a large coin pusher arcade-style machine in a bid to win cash prizes.
Tipping Point continues on weekdays at 4pm on ITV and ITV X.
