Jeremy Clarkson ‘consumed with fear’ over being put in care home by girlfriend

Jeremy Clarkson, 64, was “consumed with fear” that his girlfriend Lisa Hogan was plotting to put him in a care home for his birthday.

The former Top Gear legend panicked when Lisa planned a trip to “somewhere nice” for his milestone celebration, suspecting she had a sneaky plan to ship him off to a retirement home. The couple, who’ve been an item since 2017, have given fans a glimpse into their romance on the popular show Clarkson’s Farm, showcasing their antics on Diddly Squat Farm. For Jeremy’s recent birthday bash, Lisa whisked him away on a secret jaunt, leaving him to fret.

He confessed in his column for The Sun: “It all sounded lovely, but as we plunged further and further into the Cotswolds, and she still wouldn’t tell me where we were going. I became consumed with a fear that she was taking me to a care home.”

He continued: “She didn’t. But the day is coming.”

Earlier this year, Lisa hinted at wanting to tie the knot with the telly star, even making a leap year proposal on February 29a day when tradition says women can pop the question. However, it seems Jeremy missed the moment entirely as he wasn’t wearing his hearing aids.

“I just thought I might surprise him,” she told The Times. “Jeremy doesn’t think I proposed, but he wasn’t wearing his hearing aids, so no one will know.”

In a recent episode of Clarkson’s Farm, there’s a cheeky nod to the couple possibly getting hitched when Jeremy teases: “I’ve got a big surprise for you,” as they amble through a field.

Lisa, clearly thrilled, jumps in with: “Is it a proposal? “. The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? frontman acts like he didn’t catch that and reveals the actual surprise – a once-fallen willow tree now standing tall. When quizzed about popping the question, Jeremy deflects: “I’ll think about the proposal, OK? I’m not ready yet.”

The ex-Top Gear star has been down the aisle twice before, first with Alexandra James and then Frances Caine, with whom he has three kids: Emily, Finlo, and Katya. Jeremy and Lisa have been giving viewers a real-deal glimpse into their relationship on his hit Amazon show. He recently shut down Lisa’s hopes of him joining her for wild swimming in an episode, telling her instead to “get out” of the chilly waters and suggesting a trip to the pub as a warmer alternative.

While the former actress was frolicking in a pond with her white swimming cap on, Jeremy couldn’t help but quiz her: “What are you doing? ” To which Lisa nonchalantly said: “Just loitering in cold water.”

Not satisfied with the answer and wondering why they weren’t at the pub instead, Jeremy suggested they could just go home and enjoy a good book. But Lisa hit back with: “Apparently because this is the best high you could ever get.”

Spotting Jeremy’s scepticism, she urged him to be more open-minded, pointing out he’d never taken the plunge into icy waters. Jeremy snapped back: “I have been in cold water! I’ve done polar training – it was awful and trust me I’ve been drunk – and I’ve been in cold water – and being drunk is better.”
