The singer appeared in his mugshot with a stone-cold face and lacking any emotion. He appeared clean-cut and wore a black shirt. Sources told TMZ that Timberlake was “glassy-eyed” and the police smelled alcohol on his breath. He also apparently failed the field sobriety test where he was unable to walk and turn and balance on one leg.
However, he reportedly told police: “I had one martini and I followed my friends home,” according to an arrest report obtained by People. Justin’s friends allegedly arrived at the scene and tried to persuade the officers to let Justin go. The singer was later handcuffed and arrested before being taken into custody.
The Suffolk County District Attorney issued a statement Tuesday that read: “On June 18, 2024, Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor for Driving While Intoxicated. He will be arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court this morning. At this time, we have no further comment.”
Timberlake arrived at court wearing a dark-coloured band t-shirt underneath an open short sleeved black button up shirt. He tried to hide his identity the best he could with a black baseball cap and dark black sunglasses.
He was charged with one count of Driving While Intoxicated and was cited for running a stop sign and a “failure to keep in his lane.” The singer’s court date is set for July 26 – the same day his European leg of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour is due to start in Krakow, Poland.
It’s not the first time Justin has found himself in hot water with the law, as the Can’t Stop The Feelin’ singer’s actions were placed “under review” after he broke Tennessee state law by taking a selfie in a polling booth.
Taking photos or recording audio in a polling booth in the state is punishable by up to 30 days in prison and/or a $50 fine. Thankfully it didn’t seem as though anything came of the action, though the Shelby County, Tennessee District Attorney’s office confessed his actions were being reviewed back in 2016.
Daily Star has reached out to Timberlake’s representative for a comment.
