Oasis’ reunion has been confirmed at long last, and ’90s rock ‘n’ roll lovers are rejoicing – but did a fellow Mancunian predict the whole thing? In a resurfaced clip, fans have joked 1975 frontman Matty Healy – son of Loose Women star Denise Welch – predicted the reunion, perhaps even persuading Noel and Liam Gallagher to put aside their differences and get the band back together.
Oasis haven’t been together since 2009, so the tour, which includes four homecoming shows at Heaton Park and a further four gigs at Wembley, is a welcome shock for many. But Matty Healy called last year it in an appearance on the Q with Tom Power podcast.
In a resurfaced clip, Matty Healy begged Noel and Liam – now 57 and 51 respectively – to “stop marding,” describing them as “men of the people” and telling them to “grow up” in light of their infamous feud.
“Have a good time, have a laugh […] sort it out. There is not one person going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig that would not rather be at an Oasis gig”, he joked, begging them to “headline Glastonbury” as part of their comeback.
He also urged them to “Do me a favour – get back together. Stop messing around. That’s my public service announcement for today.”
Fans have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to say “thank you Matty Healy” for seemingly urging the band back together. Another joked he was similar to “Nostradamus”, who famously predicted huge events.
Someone wrote: “If Oasis have a show in Manchester they should have the 1975 as openers for a thank you to [Matty] for bringing them back together” – so maybe the 1975 will be appearing at Heaton Park in July 2025? Watch this space…
