P Diddy given special permission as trial date set – but he ‘slams jail food’

P Diddy was reportedly given a special permission in court as his trial date was set.

The rapper appeared at Manhattan federal court on Thursday (October 10) before Judge Arun Subramanian. There, it was said that the sex trafficking trial will begin on May 5 next year.

Seen in a beige jail jumpsuit, the 54-year-old reportedly hugged his lawyers and waved to his family who were in attendance. His mum Janice Smalls Combs, his daughters Chance, D’Lila and Jessie, and sons Justin Dior and King were there to see Diddy, real name Sean Combs.

According to New York Daily News, Diddy’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo said that the musician had been able to speak to his family “a little bit”. Usually, defendants are made to leave the courtroom very quickly.

Agnifilo also reportedly lifted the lid on how Puff Daddy is doing in jail. “I think the food’s probably the roughest part of it,” he is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Diddy’s other lawyer Anthony Ricco likened the situation to Martin Luther King, saying the star was making the best of what he could.

“Dr King called it the law of unintended consequences,” he reportedly said. “Sometimes the more you push a person down, the stronger they get.”

Another court date was set for December, however lawyers may decide it is not needed.

Judge Subramanian also vowed to issue an order which would restrict what the prosecution and defence can say about the charges and the sex trafficking investigation.

P Diddy has pleaded not guilty to charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Allegations date back to 2008.

He is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York after being denied bail twice.
