She was best known for her iconic roles as Narcissa Malfoy and as Polly Gray on the silver screen.
And it’s fair to say Helen McCrory was not too dissimilar to the powerful female characters she played throughout her career. But she didn’t just command attention in front of the cameras, she also took on many leading roles on stage too.
The Hollywood actor built the foundations of her acting career by treading the boards up and down the country. She played some infamous roles including Lady Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Glove, Olivia in Twelfth Night and Rosalind in As You Like It in the West End.

Away from her acting career, McCrory fell madly in love with Homeland star Damien Lewis when they were performing in Five Gold Rings at London’s Almeida Theatre back in 2003. The pair soon started dating and finally tied the knot back in 2007.
The happy couple went on to welcome two children together, Manon and Gulliver But her life wasn’t without its hardships. Helen was diagnosed with breast cancer but the actor decided to keep her illness under wraps until weeks before her death.
The doting mum, who was awarded an OBE in 2017 for services to drama, put up a strong fight but sadly lost her battle to breast cancer and passed away at the age of 52 back in 2021. Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside her will.
According to The Evening Standard, the probate documents revealed that the TV icon left everything to the Band of Brothers star and their two kids. The will appoints Lewis as one of the trustees of the 125-year-long fun – along banker Coutts – with the power to make payments out of the trust to himself and other beneficiaries.
Their two children and any future grandkids are included as beneficiaries. The doting dad announced her death with a moving statement, revealing that his wife of 14 years had died at home surrounded by her friends and her family.
It read: “I’m heartbroken to announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCroy has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.
“She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God, we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.”
Following her death, the actor held a memorial for the late star weeks later, which he reflected on in an emotional appearance on Good Morning Britain. He told viewers that it had been a really “special day” and that the starlet was “much, much missed”.
He said on the show: “She was celebrated by, you know, her tribe, her profession, the acting profession – actors, directors, producers, writers all showed up – and she is much, much missed.”
One year after her passing, Damian started dating The Kills singer Alison Mosshart, 45, after reportedly meeting through mutual friends while in London. They had grown increasingly fond of one another, Mosshart’s mother Vivian, 76, told MailOnline last year.
She told the publication: “I don’t know how much flak I’m going to get for all of this but of course we are excited for her. They have mutual friends. I don’t know exactly how they met but I’m fine with it.
“If she’s happy, we are happy. I’m yet to meet him but certainly I’d like to.” It comes following the news that Damien is forging a new career path as a musician as he releases his debut single with an album soon to follow.
The actor reportedly signed a record deal with Decca Records after a bidding war for the rights to release his debut album Mission Creep. It is understood that the Hollywood hunk has written a series of “deeply personal” songs for the album two years after the death of his late wife.
His debut single is called Down On The Bowery, which fans speculate serves as an ode to his new girlfriend and fellow musician Alison. Joking about his new career path as a “mini midlife crisis”, Damian said: “I suddenly had a lot to say. People will judge if it’s any good or not, but for me, it felt entirely natural.”
