Radio producer mortified after accidentally calling famous actress ‘fatty’

We’ve all had the awkward ‘wrong number’ text — but not many of us can say we’ve accidentally called a famous actress ‘fatty’ during the error.

However, one radio producer in Australia lived out that nightmare while trying to book guests for a celebrity segment on the Jonesy & Amanda breakfast show. Megan Smith, from New South Wales, believed she was contacting sports commentator Paul Vautin to be their ‘Mystery Footy Tipper’.

Her text said: “Hi Paul. It’s producer Megan from the Jonesy and Amanda breakfast show. I was wondering if you were free this Thursday, because we would love for you to come on the show and kick off our first segment for the Year of Mystery Footy Tipper, let me know your thoughts and call me if you have any questions. Thanks, Megan.”

But when a text came back telling Megan to delete the number and that it wasn’t Paul — she misunderstood what the text meant. She thought she had offended the commentator by not using the nickname ‘Fatty Vautin’ which he is known under.

So, rather than apologise for having the wrong number she doubled down, calling the unsuspecting celeb ‘fatty’ in the follow-up message. However, it really wasn’t Paul on the receiving end.

Megan explained: “I read it as it’s not Paul to you because I don’t really know these NRL people. I was like, ‘oh my God, he’s offended because I like called him his first name and not fatty.’

“I didn’t know that. So, I replied. ‘My apologies. Fatty thought it was polite to use your first name.'”

It was later revealed in the show’s Instagram DMs that Megan had actually been texting 55-year-old actress Rachel Griffiths, who didn’t take kindly to the text message.

Rachel had text back saying: “WTF? Your job is to call people fatty? This is going downhill very fast.”

Fans of the breakfast show, who follow their TikTok account, were left in stitches at the blunder as they took to the comments to share their opinions.
