Soccer Aid stadium shocked fans as they booed Tommy Fury as he ran onto the pitch just minutes before halftime.

The beloved charity event returned for its 13th year on Sunday (June 9), with the England team taking on a Rest of the World XI at Stamford Bridge. The ITV special saw a plethora of A-listers come together to raise millions for Unicef.

Since its inception in 2006, the event has raised a staggering £90million for the charity, aiding those in need in countries like Cambodia. The star-studded line-up for the charity special included names like Robbie Williams, Paddy McGuinness, Erin Doherty, Danny Dyer and Bobby Brazier representing the England team.

On the other side, the World XI team boasted names such as Roman Kemp, Usain Bolt, Martin Compston and Lee Mack. But viewers were surprised to see former Love Island star and boxer Tommy Fury return to the pitch.

Running out on the pitch to the Rocky theme tune Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti, the stadium booed the player as he subbed in for comedian Maisie Adams. It didn’t take long before fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their outrage online.

One user penned: “‘SoccerAid here he comes, the worse soccer aid player of all time Tommy Fury.” Another agreed: “Finally getting to see Tommy Fury attempt football again, he’s so bad. Highlight of last year! #SoccerAid.”

A third chuckled: “Hope Tommy Fury has improved his skills, last year he couldn’t even kick the ball #socceraid.” A fourth chimed in with: “Tommy Fury has to be the worst footballer I’ve ever seen in my life [cringe emoji] #socceraid.”

But some fans couldn’t get enough of the hunky influencer as they sang his praises online. One user gushed: “Tommy Fury gotta be studied because how’s that man bulked so big again #Socceraid.”

Another agreed: “Tommy Fury is one beautiful man isn’t he… [heart-eyes emoji] #SoccerAid.” But this wasn’t the only thing fans were complaining about, after eagle-eyed viewers shared their concerns over one small detail.

Moments after the show kicked off at 6pm, viewers left seriously distracted by an unprecedented detail. Taking to X, eagle-eyed viewers confessed they’d “never seen before” a bizarre detail on the pitch.

Viewers shared their concern for the yellow pitch as the presenting duo reported live from the field. One user penned: “What is with the pitch at Stamford Bridge for #socceraid”, while another was puzzled: “What is that pitch #SoccerAid”.

A third chimed in: “Is it me or does the pitch at Stamford Bridge look like a sand pit?! #SoccerAid”. Another added: “#socceraid Star studded event and pitch looks like a sand pit!”

Proceeds from the event will aid Unicef in protecting children from disease and malnutrition. The money also goes to supporting mental health initiatives, and providing assistance during crises in war-torn countries.
