The Chase’s Paul Sinha broke down in tears after ‘humiliating’ TV moment

In his new book, One Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, Disaster and One Man’s Quest for Happiness, Paul Sinha of The Chase fame recalls how he felt humiliated on a popular TV show. The 54 year old quizmaster talks about the sting of an awkward moment that occurred on the pilot episode of Sky’s A League of Their Own in 2009.

As per his account, the situation escalated when Stuart Broad, former cricketer who was captaining Sinha’s team, was supposedly part of Paul’s fantasy “future husband” list. As host James Corden directed the conversation towards Paul’s attraction to Broad saying: “So, Paul – I understand you really fancy Stuart”, Paul said he didn’t believe it was inappropriate, despite feeling uncomfortable.

Paul stated in his book, “If you set yourself up as a gay comic who likes to playfully flirt with straight men, then you need to be able to own your persona on comedy panel shows.”

However, things went south when comedian John Bishop delivered what Paul calls a “killer blow”: “Stuart, how does it feel to be sat next to a man who’s w***ed over your photos? “, reports the Express.

Devastated, Paul admitted that he wasn’t surprised that his appearance didn’t get him onto the subsequent series, and he still recalls being “largely ignored” at the afterparty followed by the heartbreaking taxi ride home, which he spent “crying for most of the journey.”

Reflecting upon it, Paul disclosed that he struggled to decide whether to go along with the crude humour or to shut it down, only to resort to an “unfunny” silence.

The Chase’s ‘Sinnerman’, Paul Sinha, has shared an awkward encounter with James Corden on A League of Their Own. After the recording, Corden asked his dad in the audience if he had enjoyed the six guests.

According to Paul, Corden’s dad said he had enjoyed five of them, leading to a surprised reaction from Corden and laughter from the audience.

Before releasing his memoir, Paul, who is also a doctor, appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss his life five years on from his Parkinson’s diagnosis. He revealed that despite unpleasant symptoms, his brain hadn’t failed him yet and he still plans to compete on The Chase.

The comedian expressed: “As long as my brain functions and I can fulfil my dreams of being a stand-up comedian and quizzer, I’m a happy man! I hope you’ll agree my medication seems to be controlling things quite well.”

In 2023, Paul, married to Oliver Levy, shared how he accidentally came out as gay to his parents when someone drunkenly revealed it to his mum at a house party. Paul, who kept his sexuality a secret until he was 24, admitted the news “didn’t land well”, but he now finds the story amusing.
