The Traitors has been thrust into chaos as applicants were reportedly caught trying to cheat their way onto the show.
BBC producers in charge of filtering through the thousands of applications for the smash gameshow claimed that some players have been secretly conspiring to work together to get on the show. Several fans were seen plotting to take on the challenge of the show to bag the £120k jackpot.
Following the success of the show’s previous two series, the number of applicants for the upcoming season – set to be released later this year – has skyrocketed. As a result, producers have had to be more stringent in their criteria for a good player, who may end up being either a Faithful or a Traitor.

After their second interview with BBC producers on the show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, some of the applicants were able to form group chats to discuss the status of their application. The secrecy of this plan included talking in code to make the plot to make it onto the show harder to decipher.

However, one of the applicants got cold feet in the midst of the scheming and backed out, before going to production company Studio Lambert. The company is known for its other hit TV shows including Gogglebox and Race Across the World.
A source close to the application process explained: “The group chats spoke about using code words. If they were chosen as a Traitor, they were going to say ‘I’m feeling hotter than usual today, anyone else?’ Traitors would answer ‘yes’, Faithfuls ‘no’.
“They agreed to split the prize pot. Some were just interested in fame and had fake arguments planned to get more airtime.”

The insider also said that some other applicants were not throwing their hat in the ring to win the money but instead were more interested in fame. However, by giving so much personal information about themselves away in the group chats, producers were able to work out exactly which applicants they were.
“One was a surgeon, so it was easy for casting to pick out applicants by name and give them the boot,” the source added. “The group involved are definitely out of the running for series three.”
The Traitors has become of the most watched shows in British TV after their highly successful previous two series. The first series only saw 3,000 people apply to take part, before the second series saw as many as 130,000 applicants register their interest.
For the third series of the BBC hit, 250k applications were received by the production company. The show will be filmed in the summer and will air in early 2025.
