The Traitors star Paul Gorton has revealed he applied for the BBC show as a joke.
The business manager from Manchester has opened up about his time in the Scottish castle after getting banished by his co-stars as they correctly worked out he was not one of the Faithful.
He was sent packing after being taken down by fellow Traitor Harry Clarke and after jaw-dropping roundtable scenes, Paul has opened up about how he ended up singing up for the second series.

Speaking to Daily Star, Paul said: “I’m on a podcast called Chatabix with Joe Wilkinson and David Earl and them guys had Maddy [Smedley] on from season one and it just so happened I was on the next episode. So when I sat with them they were like ‘We had Maddy on’ and I was like ‘I’ve not seen The Traitors, I don’t know what it is’ and they were like ‘Oh my god, you need to apply, your personality will be great’ so it was only on the back of that I sat down and watched it.

“I then applied as a joke, as something to say on the pod, and then the next minute I’m on the show as a Traitor and I got three quarters of the way through. It is just bonkers watching it back. Of course I am biased, but it is the best television series. I feel like the entire UK public are back watching the telly at nine o’clock and I feel like I’ve been part of that.”
Paul’s banishment has been described as “iconic” by viewers and he admits that filming the scene was “amazing”. He said: “It was the great bit of telly I’ve seen in my entire life. It was so funny because I was so detached from the character I was watching it and I’m like ‘Oh my god, they’ve got him’.
“I wanted to stay in character so as I’m walking around the table, I’m stroking peoples shoulders and I’ve got a really sad face because I wanted to really get the most of this last moment I didn’t plan on doing a a bow but I was getting upset so I thought I can’t speak so I need to do an action and the room just erupted.
“I’ve not seen a banishment like it. Jaz [Singh] has thrown a chair and it smashed to bits, so i hope he’s been charged for that. It was amazing. Towards the end, I was watching it back and saying ‘They have to get him’.”

Despite being out played by fellow Traitor Harry, Paul is backing him to win. Paul explained: “He’s an amazing lad. He’s 22 years of age and he’s got more maturity then a 36 year old man. I couldn’t keep it together, he could. He has to go through to win. I need Traitors to win because then I’ll feel I’ve been a part of it in some way.”
When asked if he’d be up for returning to the castle in the future, he teased: “I’d love to do it again absolutely. Season three bring me back and Harry. Can you imagine an All Stars with me, Harry, Amanda, Wilf and Diane. None of us would trust each other, it would be brilliant.”
