Vernon Kay revealed he wants to remain in “peak shape physically” as he opened up about his sex life and marriage to Tess Daly.
The 49-year old first met Strictly Come Dancing host Tess during his time presenting Channel 4’s T4 in 2001 – an encounter he later described as “explosive”. Just two years later, the pair tied the knot in a ceremony at St Mary’s Church in Vernon’s hometown of Horwich, Lancashire.
Since then they’ve gone on to have two children together, welcoming their first daughter Phoebe in 2004, followed by their second daughter Amber in 2009. It hasn’t always been a smooth ride, however, with Vernon admitting to sending texts of a sexual nature to five other women including model Rhian Sugden in 2010.

Now as Tess turns 55 on Friday (March 29), we take a look at Vernon’s plans to keep things exciting in the bedroom.
Vernon opened up on ITV’s Loose Women spin-off, Loose Men, where he admitted his aging has cast doubts over whether Tess still finds him sexually attractive. “I think sex is still important in a marriage though because your bodies are both different, and love is evolving constantly,” he began.
“Travelling through life together starts when you get married, but your bodies change, and my body – I know for a fact – doesn’t look like it did when we first met when I was 22. I worry about it. And I think hiding behind a ‘dad bod’ is a sad excuse. I don’t think men should be using it as an excuse not to look after themselves – you should look after yourself if you’re able to and you can. I always want to be in peak shape physically.”
Vernon continued: “I have age anxiety – I worry about getting old, about my knees going. I am going grey – my dad had a full head of white hair at 37 – and I’m clinging on, but there’s a lot in there. Turning around and seeing it in the shower tray is hard. It’s thinning out at the front.
“And I have sciatica, which can be so painful. I still like the stuff now that I liked as a teenager – dance music and rock ’n’ roll, a beer and the occasional blow-out – but I’ve never tried Botox. I don’t smoke and I don’t drink heavily, regularly. So you sort of feel the same, but you’re not the same, really. It’s hard.”
One thing Vernon has done in recent times to keep fit is a staggering 115-mile ultramarathon he ran last year. Tess was left “gutted” at being unable to witness the Radio 2 presenter Vernon complete it however, which raised a huge amount of money for Children In Need.
Due to filming commitments, the BBC hostess sadly had to miss out on seeing her him cross the finish line after he’d taken on the challenge.
Along with a screenshot of a FaceTime call with Vernon afterwards, she told her Instagram followers: “Absolutely gutted not to be at the finish line not to cheer you on today @vernonkay! (am at Strictly) BUT what a moment, what an achievement, I am SO PROUD of what you’ve done!”
The mum of two continued: “I can see in your body that it’s taken a physical toll but I know that it won’t matter right now, as the total of over 3 MILLION raised for Children In Need @bbcin is just incredible, and the generosity and support shown by everyone that has so kindly donated and those who have come out to support you along the way has been beyond wonderful and I know it’s kept you going (and me too), love you to bits Vern, you’ve got this!!”
