Father-son duo Stavros Flatley had Britain’s Got Talent viewers in fits with their hilarious dance routines back in 2009, but now Lagi Demetrious is all grown up
Stavros Flatley remain one of the most beloved Britain’s Got Talent acts in the show’s history – and now the son is all grown up.
The father-son dancing duo appeared on the ITV talent show in 2009, where they had everybody in stitches with their Greek spin on Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance. Lagi Demetrious was just 12 years old at the time when he danced with dad Demetrious – known as Demi – but these days he’s a dad himself and he looks dramatically different.
The once pint-sized performer is now 27 years old and a proud father of two, and he’s successfully running his own barbershop in Cyprus. Lagi got down on one knee to propose to his partner Annika on New Year’s Eve in 2020 – the pair walked down the aisle two years later.
They welcomed their first child, daughter Xenia, in March 2022, and their second daughter a year later. They named their second girl Demetria Demetriou, a heartfelt tribute to Lagi’s dad Demi.
Lagi recently took to TikTok to recreate the iconic Stavros Flatley dance that Britain’s Got Talent fans loved so much back in 2009. He donned his dancing shoes for St Patrick’s Day and showed fans he still had the moves as he delivered an Irish jig that had his family, and everyone else in stitches.
Fans were loving the nostalgia and rushed to the comments. “Stavros Flatley! This brings back great memories!” said one, while another said: “This has cracked me up!” Another wrote: “I needed this big smile this morning, thank you!”.
These days, Lagi is worlds away from the talent show and is sporting an impressive beard and some tattoos on his arm. Back in 2022, he looked dapper in a snap shared from his wedding day, which saw him sporting a pair of shared and a smart grey suit.
Annika looked gorgeous in her white wedding dress as Lagi handed her a bouquet of flowers. In the caption of the post, he wrote: “Thank you to every single person that made this night so special… All our bridesmaids and groomsmen and everyone else who done everything they could for us ! We love you all. Mr and Mrs Demetriou.”
The newly weds were inundated with messages from friends, including BGT judge Amanda Holden who left the comment: “Stunning.” The pair have been together since 2015.
Stavros Flatley made it to the final and finished in third place in the 2009 series of Britain’s Got Talent, finishing just behind dance troupe Diversity and show legend Susan Boyle. In 2019, the pair made an epic comeback on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions and secured Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer.
Shortly after, they chose to hang up the dancing shoes for the foreseeable future, but they could be back. Lagi is busy with his barber shop in Paphos, Cyprus, but Demi has brought Stavros Flatley back to life with his nephew Samson stepping into Lagi’s dancing shoes.
During a chat with MailOnline in 2019, Lagi revealed that Simon Cowell had advised him not to rule out performing again.. Reflecting on his decision, Lagi said: “When we got to The Champions, I thought this was the right time to leave. But Simon Cowell told me not to quit forever. So I will return for some shows.”
Britain’s Got Talent is back with its 18th series, with judges Simon, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli trying to find the next big star. They have also been joined by YouTube sensation KSI as a guest judge.
Last year, theatre star and singer Sydnie Christmas won the show, having been working at a gym. Her debut album, My Way, featuring her renditions of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, My Way and Tomorrow (which got her the Golden Buzzer).
