Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s forgotten celebrity cameos from Hollywood A-lister to Prison Break star

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a cult classic, launching many of its stars into further stardom – but some familiar faces made guest appearances too

As anticipation builds for the reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, many fans are revisiting the iconic 90s series from the start.

The brainchild of writer and director Joss Whedon, Buffy remains a beloved staple in the supernatural TV genre. Even now, more than 25 years after its debut, it continues to attract new followers.

The excitement around the show has been further stoked by the reboot announcement, which is rumoured to feature leading lady Sarah Michelle Gellar in a recurring role and as an executive producer.

The cult favourite, which aired from 1997 to 2003, catapulted Gellar and many other cast members to greater fame. According to the Mirror US, Alyson Hannigan and David Boreanaz saw their career prospects improve after their roles on the show.

However, even the most observant fans might not recognise some of the famous faces who appeared in Buffy. Several stars took on minor roles in the show at the beginning of their careers.

Pedro Pascal

Before his unforgettable performances in shows like The Last of Us, Narcos, The Mandalorian, and Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal had a small part in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His turn came in season 4, episode 1, titled ‘The Freshman’.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he plays a charming freshman Buffy encounters on her first day of college before things take a disastrous turn.

Wentworth Miller

Prison Break star Wentworth Miller also briefly appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Miller featured in season 2, episode 20, ‘Go Fish’.

He portrayed Gage, a member of Buffy’s high school swim team. Gage experiences rapid improvement but at a terrifying cost.

Clea DuVall

Hollywood actress Clea DuVall is known for her roles in films such as Girl, Interrupted, and But I’m a Cheerleader. However, she also had a significant role in an early episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In season 1, episode 11, ‘Out of Mind, Out of Sight’, she played Marcie Ross, a shy girl who tragically becomes invisible.

Nathan Fillion

Television actor Nathan Fillion, known for his roles in shows like Castle, Firefly, and Serenity, starred in the final season of Buffy. Fillion played the villainous Caleb.

This corrupt preacher assisted in executing the First Evil’s wicked schemes, leaving a lasting impression on the Scooby Gang.

Shane West

ER star and teen idol Shane West also made an appearance in Buffy. Shane featured alongside Wentworth Miller in ‘Go Fish’ as a swim team member.

Before being nominated for Oscars and winning Golden Globes, Amy Adams appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Amy Adams

Acclaimed actress Amy Adams, known for her roles in films such as Arrival, American Hustle and Enchanted, had a minor role in Buffy early in her career. She portrayed a member of Tara’s religious family who cautions her against witchcraft in season 5, episode 6, ‘Family’.

Kal Penn

Kal Penn, star of Harold and Kumar, featured in the notorious season 4 episode ‘Beer Bad’. The episdoe, which is not popular among fans, saw Penn play one of the many intoxicated college students that Buffy encounters.

Ashanti

In season 7, episode 14 titled First Date, 2000s R&B sensation Ashanti appears. Ashanti plays Xander’s attractive yet suspicious new girlfriend, Lissa.

John Ritter

TV star John Ritter featured as the detestable Ted Buchanan in season 2, episode 11, ‘Ted’. Initially introduced as a charming suitor for Buffy’s mum Joyce, it soon becomes apparent he has darker intentions.

Rachel Bilson

O.C. actress Rachel Bilson appeared in season 7, episode 18 of Dirty Girls. She played a potential slayer who oddly showed up in Xander’s erotic dream.
