Netflix has recently added a gripping ITV crime drama that left viewers in awe over leading lady Sheridan Smith’s captivating performance which earned her a BAFTA Award
One of Sheridan Smith’s most “perfect” performances is now on Netflix.
The ITV drama Mrs Biggs stars Sheridan Smith as Charmian Biggs, Daniel Mays as Ronnie Biggs, Mickey Morris as Nickey Biggs and Adrian Scarborough as Bernard Powell.
The show, released back in 2012, follows the true story of the wife of train robber Ronnie Biggs, documenting her life as a young woman, as Biggs’ wife and then the mother of their children.
The Great Train Robbery, which took place in 1963, saw £2.61 million stolen from a Royal Mail train travelling from Glasgow to London in the early hours of an August morning. The group tampered with signals which meant the train was brought to a stop, where they ambushed the stash and ran off with the millions.

Sheridan was awarded a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Mrs Biggs, as well as nominations for the National Television Award for Outstanding Female Dramatic Performance and the Royal Television Society for Best Actress.
She clearly blew away fans as at the time of the show’s release, social media was flooded with praise for her incredible role. One person on X/Twitter wrote: “Sheridan Smith as Mrs Biggs is perfect.”
Over on IMDb one fan wrote: “Compelling, I couldn’t stop watching […] my, how this drama sucked me in!”
“At the outset, it’s impossible to imagine where this journey will lead. This show does not romanticise its subject, nor does it take a satirical view, or descend into sensationalism.”
“At every turn, the motivations of all the characters seem absolutely authentic. You can believe this is how it really felt to live such a life. The acting and writing are so good, you simply never think about them; you just want to know more about these people and to find out what happened next.”
Someone else branded Mrs Biggs as an “entertaining journey through the years up to the robbery and the aftermath”.
“Charmian comes across as a sympathetic character and Ronnie appears well meaning but weak […] If you are aware of the original events it is well worth viewing to see the effect and behaviour of the innocent family.”
