Fans were touched after meeting the acclaimed Sir David Jason and witnessing his legendary comedy in person, whilst other stars such as Anthony Costa attended the event
Sir David Jason wowed fans at this year’s Only Fools and Horses Convention by pulling off a perfect Welsh accent.
The 85-year-old actor – best known for playing cockney market trader Derek “Del Boy” Trotter – delighted hundreds of attendees at this year’s fan fest event by showcasing his north and south Wales lilt.
Writing on Facebook diehard fan Donna Marie Hayes said: “I absolutely loved seeing Sir David on Sunday especially when he was doing his south Wales accent then doing the north Wales one.
“He nailed them both lol I was nervous meeting him but he is an absolute gentleman and put me at ease can’t wait to see you again.”
Tributes poured in for the acting legend after convention chairman Perry Aghajanoff put out a Facebook request for fans to send Sir David a personal message.
He wrote: “If you met Sir David Jason at the convention, this is your chance to send him a personal message.
“I’m meeting David later this week, and I want to hand him your messages about what the experience meant to you.
“He doesn’t do social media and has often wondered what fans really thought of the day—so let’s make sure he knows.”
Other highlights at the star-studded sell-out event included a surprise appearance by boy band star Anthony Costa.
While Sir David Jason also won further plaudits from fans for admiring their Fools and Horses tattoos and was commended by others for consoling those who had recently lost loved ones or were sick.
Long term fan Peter Nunns, said: “Sir David is my hero and meeting him was everything I had hoped for and more. Also, the rest of the cast were very welcoming too.
“Best day of my life and I have started having a OFAH back tattoo which isn’t finished yet but would love Sir David to see it. Thank you everyone for making it such an amazing day.”
Chloe Beard travelled to the attend the convention from her home in Portugal. She wrote: “He might remember me from crying hysterically crying because I told him he looked like my dad who passed away and that I had to attend on my own.
“He is an idol to many of us and he lived up to the expectation I had of being so kind and funny.
“It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that was worth every single second. I wish him well for the rest of his life.”
Jayne Banks, added: “I loved my day. I’d like to thank him from the bottom of my heart for giving up his time to come and meet us.
“He cheered me up beyond belief yesterday. It’s been a tough few weeks for my husband and I having found out he has cancer and we’ve gone through a range of emotions but yesterday Sir David made me laugh and smile for the first time in weeks.
Stars who wowed fans at last weekend’s convention alongside Sir David included Tessa Peake-Jones (Raquel Turner), Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra Trotter), and Philip Pope (Tony Angelino). Last year we reported fans were banned from asking Sir David for selfies at the £550-a-pop event.
