Goosebumps star Colin Fox has died.
The Canadian actor famously appeared in the hit nineties TV horror show Goosebumps, based on the best-selling books by R. L. Stine. He played the creepy owner of the shoe store in the first ever episode of the series, titled The Haunted Mask (1996).
The shopkeeper refuses to sell Carly Beth (Kathryn Long) a cursed Halloween mask that she finds at the back of his store. However, she decides to steal the mask and run out of the shop, and to her horror, it soon begins merging with her face.
Colin passed away at the age of 86 on April 5. News of his passing was confirmed by Graham, A. Giddy Funeral Home. They paid tribute to him in a statement on their website, hailing him as a “beloved Canadian actor” with the “biggest heart”.
They wrote: “The world has dimmed a little with the passing of Colin Fox, a beloved Canadian actor whose talent graced both stage and screen and whose spirit radiated warmth and generosity to all who knew him. Colin, remembered by many as the kindest man with the biggest heart.”
It continued: “Whether portraying a memorable character on stage or screen or simply navigating everyday life, Colin’s vastness of character shone through. He was a thoughtful and attentive individual, always considering the feelings and well-being of others. He gave freely of his time, his resources, and most importantly, his unwavering kindness.”
Discussing his family, the tribute read: “Colin’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving spouse, Susan, and his daughter, Sarah (Mark). Colin was beloved by Susan’s daughter Shannon and her children Cameron, Evan and Erica. Colin was predeceased by his former wife, Carol Bermingham-Fox (2015).
“While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the legacy of Colin Fox – a legacy built on kindness, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the lighter side of life – will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.”
Fans have paid tribute to the actor, with many fond of his role in Goosebumps. One user on X wrote: “Really sad to hear about Colin Fox’s passing. His performance as The Shopkeeper is one of the best parts of The Haunted Mask. His monologue about the Unloved gave the character some surprisingly complex layers.”
An Instagram page titled “90s Kids Throwbacks” wrote: “Colin Fox, one of the great actors and characters of the ‘90s Goosebumps franchise has passed away. In Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask, Colin Fox plays the creepy shoe store keeper who sells Carly Beth the terrifying mask.
