Jeff Brazier has reportedly been banned from seeing his grandmother, Jackiey Budden, after he moved in with her following a series of rows with his TV presenter father
Jeff Brazier, telly host and dad to Jade Goody’s sons, is said to be taking legal steps to shield his 20-year-old son, Freddy, from his gran Jackiey Budden.
Jeff’s aiming to protect Freddy from “a relationship that has been incredibly detrimental to his wellbeing”, with reports of him getting a barrister on board for an impending court date.
This legal drama follows after Freddy opened up about his ADHD, which he was diagnosed with at 10. Chatting on Celebrity Race Across the World last year, Freddy admitted: “I don’t think I was bad but I weren’t good.”
Jeff chimed in with some fatherly pride: “I couldn’t hazard a guess on how Fred’s mind works but I know he’s going to do something amazing in his lifetime. We need the pioneers, we need the people that give a completely different opinion. That’s what Fred’s role is gonna be. And I see it. I’ve always seen it and I look forward to him realising it, one day it’s all gonna click and fall into place.”
The young lad also got candid about the pain of losing his mum, Jade Goody, when he was just four, especially tough as it happened on Mother’s Day. “I lost my mum when I was four and that was on Mother’s Day, which is really hard. I don’t really like showing my emotions. I don’t even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. I prefer to bottle it up. I don’t want to feel like I’m a burden to them,” Freddy shared.
Jeff confessed on the show that Freddie “isn’t at home loads” and he was eager to deepen their father-son bond during the programme. “D’you know what I’m most looking forward to about this trip is that I feel like I’m about to learn a lot more about my son,” Jeff shared.
“[Fred] isn’t at home loads and as a result, I don’t see loads of him, but the beauty of this trip is he’s with me and can’t shake me off.”, reports the Mirror.
However, over recent months, it’s reported that Freddy and Jeff’s relationship has taken a hit, with Freddy moving out of their family home to live with his grandmother Jackiey in Bermondsey, London. “Freddie will often turn up on the doorstep, sometimes very unhappy, and wanting to see his nan,” an insider revealed to the Mail.
“He and Jeff frequently clash, the arguments can get heated, things go really, really pear-shaped between them and that’s it, he leaves. “While Jackiey has her issues – and will be the first to admit she isn’t the most perfect or archetypal grandmother – he can share his feelings with her which is something he can’t do at Jeff’s. “
Jackiey has previously spoken about her struggles with drug addiction, admitting that she taught her daughter Jade to “roll cannabis cigarettes” when she was just five. “I’ve never ever had drugs until I started at 45 years old. Stupid. I was on crack. I was the guiltiest person ever at that specific time,” she confessed in one interview.
“[Jade and I] had one physical fight. That was down to me being a crackhead.”
In August this year, Freddy made an appearance alongside his father Jeff Brazier on BBC One’s Celebrity Race Across the World. On the show, he candidly shared about navigating his professional path and his personal life.
Though his brother Bobby is well-known for starring in EastEnders and participating in Strictly Come Dancing, Freddy confided: “I’m figuring out what I’m going to do with my life.”
Moreover, the young man has expressed openly about his strong filial bond with his father Jeff despite experiencing their fair share of trials and tribulations. When reflecting upon this relationship, Freddy expressed his deep gratitude: “At times where I’ve pushed him away he has pulled even harder to pull me back in.
“I don’t think I praise my dad enough for everything he has done for me but he knows the love. “
Over the years, Jeff and Jackiey have shared a tumultuous relationship, with media reports from 2023 indicating that Jackiey was not allowed to watch Bobby perform on Strictly Come Dancing.
In 2021, Bobby also mentioned reconnecting with Jackiey on Instagram after a prolonged period of disconnection. “I didn’t see her for ages – for way too long – but I went to see her twice recently,” he shared.
He went on, “And honestly if there’s one woman you shouldn’t underestimate it’s my nan. Honestly, she’s like a wizard! It’s nuts.”
Jeff has spoken publicly about his complicated relationship with his mother-in-law, Jackiey, following a family rift that occurred several years ago. However, he has also shared that the situation has improved over time, especially when it comes to her bond with his sons.
During an appearance on ITV’s This Morning, Jeff opened up about the tensions with Jackiey, stating: “It has ended very well, but five years ago she went off on her own path and it wasn’t quite right to have that contact and she made it quite difficult because she went to Tenerife. But as she settled in herself, the boys kept a lot of contact with her and at the moment she’s very helpful and very prominent in their lives. “.
