Zayn Malik has been forced to cancel a concert at the last minute. The former One Direction star said he is “heartbroken” to be disappointing thousands of fans by cancelling his concert last minute.
The singer, 32, had to pull the plug on his Mexico City gig on Friday night due to ill health. He took to Instagram to share the news, writing on his Stories: “‘I’m heartbroken to say that I won’t be able to perform tonight in Mexico City. I’ve been really sick since this morning and despite trying everything to push through, my body just isn’t allowing it. I’m so sorry to let you down.”
He continued: “The love and energy I always feel from my fans means the world to me, and it hurts deeply to miss this moment with you. Thank you for your understanding, and please know I’m sending all my love to each of you x”
Fans quickly flocked to wish the superstar a quick recovery.
One wrote: “Mexican Zquad is not mad, we wish he could reshuffle and we’re worried for him, we love him and we hope he’s okay.”
This show was supposed to be the last stop of the singers Stairway to the Sky tour, which began back in November 2024, just after his former bandmate Liam Payne’s untimely death.
At his first gig in Leeds on November 23, Zayn shared a gut-wrenching tribute to Liam. He beamed a note on stage that said “Liam Payne 1993-2024, love you bro,” with a red love heart.
Zayn went on to gush over his fans as they sang some of the star’s biggest hits – both as a solo act and also during his stint in One Direction. He said it was “good to be back up North”, as he addressed fans in the O2 Academy in Leeds before launching into 18 of his biggest songs.
Fans were incredibly proud of Zayn for picking himself up and carrying on despite the devastating loss of his former pal Liam. One user headed to the comments section to pen: “So so sooooo proud of you Zayn, words cannot express the amount of happiness I felt seeing you on stage.”
A second user also gave Zayn some words of encouragement, penning: “Stay strong you can do this bro; No. 1 is on the way.” Whilst a third added: “Thank you Zayn, you were amazing in both shows – a total dream come true.”
