Rod Stewart annoys The One Show fans by bragging about luxury home amid lockdown

BBC The One Show was back on our screens this evening for the final instalment of the week.

Host Alex Jones was joined by guest presenter Huw Edwards for Friday’s hour-long special, which marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Alex and Huw spoke to rocker Sir Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster via a video link from their home during tonight’s show.

The Maggie May hitmaker chatted about how he was coping with coronavirus lockdown with his family.

Sir Rod, 75, confessed that he was “missing the football and the pubs the most” but he felt lucky to be spending time with his family.

He added: “We are very lucky. We’ve got an indoor pool, a football pitch and everything we need. We have 54 acres.

“I’ve got four of my children with me so we’re coping.”

BBC viewers took to their keyboards as they accused Rob of “bragging” about his luxurious home.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Rod Stewart reminding us he’s OK in lockdown because of his vast amount of land and his indoor swimming pool.”

A second added: “Rod Stewart on The One Show. ‘I’m coping very well with the lockdown. I have an indoor swimming pool. 54acres. I have four of my children staying with me. I’ve just had to borrow £5 from my mum to buy painkillers.”

A third fumed: “I’m not sure Rod Stewart really judged the mood on The One Show talking about his indoor pool and many acres of land. He isn’t really having the same lockdown as us, is he?”

A fourth agreed: “Really want to hear how hard it is for Rod Stewart with his pool and pitch NOT!”

Chatting about their stay at home VE Day party, Loose Women star Penny, 49, said: “Me and the kids made some banners and we made cupcakes and had a picnic.”

“I was an air-raid shelter baby. I nearly didn’t make because just 20 minutes before I was born a V2 rocket dropped on the local police station.

He joked: “I think that’s when my mum must have gone “oh and he’s out”.

Rod went on to explain his father was part of the ARP -Air Rescue Police during World War II.
