EastEnders ‘ favourite couple, Callum “Halfway” Highway and Ben Mitchell, also known to fans as Ballum, are set to face new hurdles as the BBC soap returns to screens.
Bosses at the Beeb were left with no other choice but to stop broadcasting earlier this year after they ran out of episodes due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Now, thanks to new social distancing guidelines, fans can expect new episodes of “season two” on their screens from Monday, September 7 – albeit, shorter episodes.
Before the world went into lockdown, EastEnders views saw Ben fall back into his criminal life while Callum geared up for a life in the police force.

Now, three months later, the pair have spent lockdown apart and are heading for challenges in their relationship.
Speaking to WhatsOnTV, Tony said that his character, Callum and Ben [Max Bowden] have spent lockdown apart due to Ben being at high risk, but the separation has brought them closer together.

Speaking about Callum’s new career in the police, he said: “Callum’s started his job with the police and has been fast-tracked. He’s really in the mix of things and you’ll see a new side to Callum as he settles into his new job.”
When probed about their relationship, he added: “There are a lot of twists and turns, but I can’t say too much!
“Callum’s job is obviously going to cause a few problems down the line, especially when he’s got Ben for a boyfriend and Ben’s dad is Phil Mitchell.”

However, things may not be as simple as they appear for the fan favourite couple, as Tony hinted that Callum’s new career could come before their relationship.
“It’s his job or his love life. He’s got this new career which is very different from Ben’s ‘career’.”
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that bosses on the show have used “cheated” the social distancing rule as cast members return to work.
Ahead of the launch episode, producer Jon Sen revealed that camera crew have used sneaky methods to hide the two-metre distance.
Perspex screens have also been introduced, allowing the cast to engage in intimate kissing scenes – with real-life partners also being drawn in.
EastEnders returns to BBC One on Monday, September 7 at 8pm.
