Millionaire fans baffled as winner bags £1m after brother won £500k on show

Many Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? fans were in meltdown on Friday (September 11) night as teacher Donald Fear scooped £1million on the ITV show.

Donald became the first person to win the show during Jeremy Clarkson ‘s reign on the programme.

And former Top Gear host Jeremy even began to well up as Donald sailed through the final question and became a millionaire.

Most fans were delighted for Donald and his big win, with some even getting emotional over the moment.

However, others were baffled as it was revealed early on in Donald’s game that his brother Davyth had been on the show too – and won £500,000.

Donald joked at the start of the show that he wanted to beat his brother.

And as fate had it, he did just that – scooping the million pound prize.

One joked online: “No way he’s brother won half a million now he’s won the million and he said he wanted to get one step further than him, and did. Wow.”

While another added: “#WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire how do two brothers get on and I don’t even get an email saying “thanks for your application but you’ve not been successful.”

A third chimed in: “The odds of two brothers getting on #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

While a fourth added: “#WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire oh come… ironically his brother got 500k.”

Other fans were just happy for Donald though, as one gushed: “Absolutely stoked for Donald Fear on winning the million on @MillionaireUK tonight. He lived up to his name in having no ‘fear’ and absolutely smashed it!”

Jeremy Clarkson was emotional as he crowned his first millionaire on the show

While another added: “It was absolutely brilliant to see a one million pound winner tonight on the television and seeing Jeremy Clarkson getting emotional as he was so happy for Donald Fear. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

Daily Star Online have contacted ITV for comment.

Donald becomes the sixth person to win the jackpot on the show – with the last person to win being retired civil servant Ingram Wilcox, who won in 2006.

Donald celebrated his Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? win with a caravan holiday in Whitley Bay.

The 57-year-old has now quit his job as a teacher but claims the only thing he wants to splash out on is a motorhome.

He said: “I used to say if I had a million pounds, I wouldn’t have a clue how to spend it!

“I could buy an Aston Martin. I could get into the thing, but I could never get out of it. I’m fat!”
