Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway was emotional during Tuesday’s show, as ITV played footage of a heartwarming reunion between an elderly married couple.
Joined by her co-hosts Ranvir Singh and celeb news expert Richard Arnold, the GMB team shared a feel-good story to lift viewers’ spirits in the morning.
Watching the clip from the ITV studios, Kate, 53, revealed she had been in “tears” the first time she saw it, as she watched alongside pal Ranvir.
It showed Joseph Loreth and his wife, Eve, who were forced apart for 215 days during the coronavirus pandemic, unable to embrace one another.
Joseph had undergone surgery and was in a rehabilitation facility, and while Eve had been able to contact him by phone, the sweethearts were thrilled to finally hold one another in their arms again this week.
Married for 60 years, Joseph and Eve – who are from Florida, US – could be seen rushing to one another in a heartwarming clip, both wearing face masks for protection.
His voice cracking with emotion, Joseph could be heard saying: “I sure missed you.”
He then added: “After 60 years, I gotta do something right.”
Describing the clip, Kate confessed there wasn’t a dry eye in the studio as they watched the elderly lovebirds reunite across the pond.
She said: “They could normally meet but because he was having special therapy they couldn’t and they had to spend 250 days apart and after 60 years of marriage, you can imagine how tough that was.
“Ranvir and I were both in tears when we watched this. Let’s look at Robert and Eve being reunited.”
Meanwhile, over on Twitter, GMB viewers were similarly heartbroken over the footage, as they took to their keyboards to join the conversation.
One fan, moved to tears by the reunion, said: “OMG bawling.”
“That has just made me sob,” wrote another, who was also forced to reach for their tissues.
“If you weren’t moved by that video, you must be dead,” penned a third.
