Friend and admirer DJ Yoda tweeted today: “I’m raw and almost unable to comment on this right now, but I’ve woken up to the news that Spinbad is gone.
“This has hit me hard. Spinbad is one of the main reasons that I am a DJ.
“Let me tell you how important his infamous 80s pop mix is. Spinbad was the first hip-hop mix tape DJ to leave the comfort zone of rap music. He showed me that music isn’t something you need to be embarrassed about.

“A clue to how influential he was for me – I spoke to Chris before I released How To Cut & Paste: The 80s Edition to check it was OK with him that I even did it. I tried to put my UK/personal spin on it, but I had to shout him out on the mix itself because it wouldn’t have existed without him.”
He went on: “To this day, I talk about him when I get asked in interviews who my influences are.
“The world is culturally emptier today without him – I wish I had the chance to say goodbye.
“I send love to his family, and today – listen to his 80s mix (the 90s one is amazing too).
“Rest in peace Spinbad.”
Social media has been flooded with more tributes from fans and fellow DJs.
Krafty Kuts tweeted: “Just heard the news that one of the best DJs I know and some of the greatest DJ mixes I have ever heard has passed away – DJ Spinbad. RIP so sad to hear this, he was such an inspiration to so many with his incredible skills. His mix tapes are legendary. My thoughts go out to his family.”
